Frog Meadow’s 25 acres are laced with gentle woodland trails perfect for wandering, grounding, and letting the world soften around you. These paths wind through a diverse forest ecosystem—stands of luminous white birch, groves of fragrant hemlock, and towering white pines that rise like natural cathedrals overhead. As you explore, the land reveals quiet surprises: a clear, burbling stream, mossy banks, countless mushroom varieties and a series of small waterfalls that shift with the seasons.
In summer, the canopy filters golden light; in winter, the trails become a peaceful route for snowshoeing when conditions allow. Whether you’re seeking an early morning stroll, a reflective solo walk, or a romantic meander with a partner, the on-site trails offer a gentle, restorative immersion in nature.
For nearby outings, Townshend State Park’s Bald Mountain trail offers a moderate climb with summit views. The West River Trail runs through the valley and links towns including Newfane, making it a good all-season option for walking and snowshoeing. You can also head to Hogback Mountain Conservation Area and Molly Stark State Park to hike Mount Olga to the fire tower for broad views.
I have been visiting Frog Meadow Farm for more than a year now. I have driven down from the Toronto area to Frog Meadow several times during 2019 – the last visit in late October.
What keeps me coming back?
The hospitality – the friendly attentive greetings and care taken by Jay, Scott and Dave make me feel at home as soon as I arrive; the beautiful home that Scott and Dave open up to their guests; the well appointed rooms; the beautiful gardens; the walking trails; the hot tub; the swimming pond…
All of this is in a peaceful, welcoming area of Vermont with a variety of things to do and see and some wonderful restaurants.
As well, I have met a variety of interesting guests, some of whom I have stayed in touch with over time.
Each visit has left me feeling rejuvenated and looking forward to my next visit!
